Foreign firms in China should respect China's laws and regulations, and respect China's public customs and traditions, and assume the corresponding social responsibilities, and of course Google is no exception," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said.
Till now, China's foreign ministry distanced itself from the ongoing dispute.
Even though Ma did not speak about the censorship issue, he said that China is the biggest victim of hacking.
This comes a week after the major threatened to pull out of the country. Google said that it along with other companies were targets of sophisticated cyber-spying from China.

VK Murthy chosen for 2008 Dada Saheb
Jan 19: Veteran cinematographer V K Murthy, who has given the Indian cinema some memorable and breathtaking visual moments, has been chosen for the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2008.
The cinematographer who has worked with legendary film director and actor Guru Dutt has already been honoured with the IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
Shri Murthy would be the 56th recipient of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, a press information bureau release said on Tuesday, Jan 19.

China dismisses India's hacking allegations
Beijing, Jan 19: Besides commenting on the Google dispute, China's foreign ministry on Tuesday, Jan 19 dubbed India's allegations that Chinese hackers tried to attack its central government offices as 'baseless'.
"The Chinese government is firmly against hacking activities and will deal with relevant cases in accordance with the law," Ma added, before claiming that China was the biggest victim of hacking activities.
MK Narayanan on Monday, Jan 19 told Times Online that the computers in his office along with those in other government agencies had come under an attack on Dec 15, which was the same day United States reported hacking attacks.
This comes amid the country's ongoing conflict with Google over allegations of hacking attempts and differences over censorship.
When questioned about the Indian National Security Advisor (NSA) MK Narayanan's statement on attempts from China to hack into computers in the India's top security and government agencies, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said, "I can say that these accusations are groundless."
